UNBOUND 2026 vs INBOUND 2026 | Our Thoughts + Strategy Questions

George B. Thomas: Oh, you'd think I'd know our intro after a hundred and plus some anyway.
Max Cohen: I really thought you'd understand it.
Chad Hohn: Yeah.
George B. Thomas: Will you be understanding? Okay. So this the UN episode of the, uh, hub Heroes, the UNH Hub Heroes. Uh, but we'll never be that. We'll always be the hub heroes.
Listen, uh, today we're gonna have a honest, authentic, transparent. Unique. Oh, well that kind of fits in there, but it doesn't
Max Cohen: understated.
George B. Thomas: Understated conversation about a decision that the powers that be made around an event that we all love. An event that we've talked about on this podcast before. Uh, the artist formerly known as, um, in Inbound. Um, guys, have you had any conversations since the name changed and had to like, catch yourself and be like, I mean, Unbound, like, have you I, is it just me? Yeah. Chad.
Chad Hohn: I mean, I've just, you know, we were just talking about going to the conference recently, uh, with one of my coworkers who does HubSpot stuff. So yeah,
George B. Thomas: Yeah.
Chad Hohn: oops, nope, I'm bound. Or like, I had to, I think I had to tell her.
George B. Thomas: Oh,
Max Cohen: I won't be word policed. It's.
George B. Thomas: oh, so Well, it is and it isn't. I mean, so, so here's, here's the thing. Uh, if you don't know. Inbound is no longer inbound. Uh, it is unbound from here on out. By the way, when you go to the website, it's literally Unbound and then tm. So they've trademarked this. Now I'm gonna, I'm gonna put a flag in that for a second.
We'll come back to that. But I do want to kind of hear your. Statements or thoughts around like, let, let's do this, let's go when you first heard it, right? Gut response. That's what we're gonna go first with. Like, when you first heard inbound is now unbound. What was your knee-jerk Gut response.
Max Cohen: What my knee jerk was just, uh.
George B. Thomas: Mm.
Max Cohen: It was mostly noises. It was noises. Ah. Oh yeah.
Chad Hohn: It's like all the VS. Mixed together.
Max Cohen: how many, how many inbounds have we done now?
George B. Thomas: Like how, how long has it been named inbound
Max Cohen: How, how many years?
George B. Thomas: 15. 15 years. Yeah.
Max Cohen: It's a good run.
George B. Thomas: That's a good run. Yeah.
Max Cohen: a good run. I mean, I could understand their desire to. Evolve
George B. Thomas: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We're not there yet. Hang on, hang on. Chad, what was, what was your first knee-jerk kind of gut response?
Chad Hohn: I think I have a little bit less attachment. I mean, I've only been going to inbound for like five years, you know, so I did a little bit less attachment to the name, but um, I was like, hmm, new branding. Okay. I mean, like for me, a lot of times it's. What you do there is what you make of it. You know, you can have a great experience or poor experience because of what you do there.
And so I felt like, oh, it's a new, new branding, new name, Unbound is kind of interesting. But, you know, that's, that's about how I felt about it. Like, I wasn't, I wasn't, uh, in deep turmoil or anything.
George B. Thomas: Yeah, it, it's interesting because by the way, you just mentioned the word brand. I'm gonna put a stake in that. We'll come back to that as well. New branding you mentioned, I mentioned trademark and putting a stake. So I want people to start wrapping their head around these words that I'm saying.
We're gonna put a stake in as far trademark and new branding and things like that. Um, when I heard it, I, I wanna say there was a. A visceral response, like almost like a sick to my stomach. Like, can this be true? And it's interesting, Chad, 'cause you're like, I didn't have much attachment to it. Um, inbound is like, I'm very attached to inbound.
In 2016 when I first spoke there, like I laid my heart out to the world of like, this is who I am. This is why I love HubSpot. Like this is how the ecosystem has impacted me from this guy to this guy. And, um, you know, spoken there every year since 2016, spoken multiple times on certain years, done the after hour show.
And so like, but if I, but if I boiled it down to one word, to be honest with everybody, uh, it was confused. Uh, my knee jerk response was like, uh, what? Uh, why like that? That's kind of where I sat in, which I think maybe translates to Max's noise, uh, noises like, ooh, ooh. Not knowing like what brain, how to unpack, how do I unpack this?
So, so once you got past the knee jerk response and you started to dig into the story being told. Um, now Max or Chad, where, where did your brain go or where is your brain now around this idea of it being unbound versus inbound?
Max Cohen: I mean, I don't necessarily think I know the entire story other than the narrative that I've kind of seen develop, uh, over, you know, the past couple years. I mean, we kind of first saw it with Loop. We saw it with, you know, HubSpot transitioning into, you know, being the, I don't know, what are we, what are we now an AG agentic customer platform.
Chad Hohn: Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Max Cohen: Forget if we had
George B. Thomas: Yeah, a
Max Cohen: Um, you know, I, I've been, and, and, and them, you know, starting to do things where like, I mean, you just, you just remember like the, for years and years and years, how we're always like, well, the last thing you should ever do is import a list of contacts that didn't know they wanted to reach out to you, to then all of a sudden doing all this like, prospecting stuff and, and like.
Buying Clearbit and like, you know, having all this enrichment stuff in there and everything. And like, I think you've, you've kind of seen them kind of quietly move away from this like, you know, strategy that I think like made 'em special in the first place. Right. So in like, in a way it kind of, it kind of doesn't surprise me.
And like, I think my big assumption is that they're trying to like. Get away from like, oh, inbound is our one trick pony, you know, strategy. Which like, I think is, I'm like very conflicted on because like at the end of the day, you, you like inbound as a strategy is still what you, you end up doing no matter if you're looping, if you're, if you're.
Enriching. If you're scooping, like whatever it is, like at the end of the, no matter how you can't, you know, no matter how much AI you deploy in this entire thing, at the end of the day, what is physically happening? Well, you're creating a bunch of content that people are finding and they're coming to you, they're inbound to you.
Like that's still what's happening. Right? And like, I, I, I, I just get. I, I feel weird because I feel like there's this like sense of like, oh, we gotta get away with it. Get away from it. Because
George B. Thomas: Mm
Max Cohen: there were still so many people that just thought all inbound was, was take ebook, put behind landing page when that was like never what It really was never, ever, ever what it really was.
Right.
George B. Thomas: Yeah, it was about being a magnet, being a, an attractor.
Max Cohen: Yes, exactly. Um, you know, and, and, and I'm just, I like. I wish they doubled down on it instead of like feeling like, oh, it's something we gotta get away from. To me, I think my initial gut reaction was like, oh, changing the name of inbound to Unbound means like, oh, we're unbound from the chains of the past.
That held us down for so long.
George B. Thomas: Oh wow.
Max Cohen: like, what are you, what do you mean? Like inbound is still a thi, there's only two ways. There's inbound and outbound. There's no side bound, there's no, I mean, all the other different bounds
Chad Hohn: Uh, they have southbound, I'm pretty sure that's
Max Cohen: you saw it when they, when they kind of pushed that all bound thing, like I think was also like a, you know, a little bit, Hey guys, see we're not just the inbound guys anymore.
It's like, I dunno, dude,
George B. Thomas: I remember, I remember when we talked about All Bound on
Chad Hohn: the Allbound timeline.
George B. Thomas: you lost your Everlasting
Max Cohen: I was like, what a pointless thing to call this thing. It was, it's so silly. It's the all bound timeline. It's like, oh, you mean the timeline just horizontal and you have to scroll through it? What? Like it's just, yeah. I don't know, dude.
George B. Thomas: So, okay. So, uh, Chad, I'm coming to you next to kind of get where you're at now, but,
Chad Hohn: Yeah.
George B. Thomas: um, max, there, there is an article and anybody out there listening or watching if they don't know there is an article, it's Inbound is now Unbound, why we're Evolving the event. So when I talk about the story, it's like, ha, have you taken the time to go, you know.
Kind of check out this story of what that's being, being told, being, you know, like why, why they're doing this. Uh, there's a video on there as well. Um, they talk about what inbound built, uh, kind of a new era of growth, and then they get into why Unbound. And, and I just wanna go with this, like unbound signals more than a name change or.
A conference. It reflects how modern growth leaders actually think across teams, channels, and the entire customer journey. The connection to inbound is intentional. One letter changed reflects 15 years of learning and iteration. The foundation was strong and now we're extending what Inbound started.
Unbound is not a methodology. Unbound is a mindset, right? So now remember like the inbound methodology, that's where we started. It was back in the, like the mark Killins, crystal adult chase era, bedrick days, uh, academy inbound methodology, a way that you do it. So what they're saying is the event or unbound is all about a mindset or a set of mindsets.
Uh, so check out that article. We'll make sure there's a link in the show notes to this episode. If you're listening to this and you haven't checked out that article yet. But Chad, where, where are you at right now with the, the whole change?
Chad Hohn: Yeah. Um, I mean, I, I checked, you know, checked out the video on, on, uh, release notes day and, you know, watched it. And I mean, I think I, I understand like where they're coming from. I mean, I understand too that like. The features that have been being added in the platform, you know, are enabling additional use cases beyond.
You know, simply inbound marketing, but they all ultimately will serve an inbound methodology, right. At the end of the day, like you need to be helpful and useful to everybody that you're, you're serving your customers, the community, your industry, like you want to be known in those places and everything that HubSpot has helps you do that.
Right?
George B. Thomas: Let's, let's put a stake in known, not trademarked, new branding known. Let's put a stake in that one. Keep, keep going, Chad. Keep
Chad Hohn: You're making me hungry, George, with all this talk about steak. Um,
George B. Thomas: Steak brother. Wrong
Chad Hohn: sorry. Oops, oops, oops. Um, but yeah, like, I mean, I think, I think, uh, I, I, I think that, you know, changing the letter of the conference, like when I read through the why we're unbound, like I think I understand where they're coming from.
I understand that they're. They had to go beyond as well. Just features that only serve the inbound methodology as well. Like I'm very obviously a feature focused person and I think about product, uh, and like how people use the tools that are in the system, uh, a lot. And when I think about that, I like you, you think about buyers, like people buying HubSpot and they're gonna be checking off.
A checklist or like a product comparison matrix or something that they build and validating whether or not this thing can check the boxes. They're not HubSpot loyalists. They're looking for software for their system. And I understand as a HubSpot loyalist like that, you know, I bleed orange. Right. I feel, um, how important that, like inbound was to.
The growth of HubSpot originally, but by the same token, like as a company selling a SaaS product, you know, you gotta make sure that when people are doing their comparisons, their comparisons stack up. Even if it's literally like stuff that people might not use that much, but it has to be in there because they're gonna be like, oh, well, we'll get a bad, like, people will get a bad score in a, in a comparison matrix.
Uh, and that's how a lot of companies evaluate products, right? So I totally understand too, some of the features that have been added. I, I don't necessarily, you know, like it does it jive with certain things? Well, you know, sometimes people gonna be using that. Sometimes they're not gonna be using that, you know, um, like they're there.
They, I think they exist for, for. The use cases so that they can check the boxes a lot of times. But yeah, I mean, I, I definitely understand and why they're doing what they're doing. And again, for me, like the, any, anything is what you make of it. A conference is what you make of it. HubSpot is what you make of it.
Right. And so I
Max Cohen: You.
Chad Hohn: home and where you make it. Mm-hmm.
George B. Thomas: Yeah. Yeah. L like, listen, I like I'm, there's part of me that wants to be that, okay, get off my lawn. Like part of me wants to be
Max Cohen: guy right now.
George B. Thomas: but I, but I can't be that guy. But let me, let me just. Let me talk through a couple things here. One, I'm super excited, uh, with the change, and by the way, I literally have wrote, written an article on sidekick strategies already seven Unbound 2026 tips from a 13 year veteran.
Plus a free survival guide. So we've created an unbound survival guide and we've created an article around some tips that you might think about if you're new to Unbound. Okay? You've never been to Inbound. It's your first year. Maybe it's your first year of Unbound. Second year of inbound slash unbound.
Anyway, the get the survival guide, get the article. But let me, let me talk through a couple things. One, I remember when there was a year, couple years where it was like this thing of like, well, it, it's not a HubSpot event. It like inbound is inbound and now you go to the Unbound 26 page and literally it says, HubSpot's annual event for modern go to market leaders.
So, okay, so now Inbound is a HubSpot event. Okay, cool. Sweet. Um, also, by the way, if you're curious, at September 16th through the 18th, uh, 2026, Boston, Massachusetts, hopefully I see you there. If you're going, here's the other thing, Chad, you mentioned Orange. Orange is a side color on inbound dot, uh, unbound do hubspot.com by the way, like now it's more of like the purple and the pink and the, like the orange is like a, and we have this section where we talk about inbound is now inbound and that's orange.
So we're almost like we're deporting from, uh, which by the way is not surprising. 'cause if you've looked at the platform, don't get Max started. They kind of went away from certain, certain brand colors in the platform. But even on, on Unbound, uh, we're going away from kind of the like bleeding orange. I might have to repaint my office purple and
Max Cohen: I wanna know, there's not enough gray in here. I
George B. Thomas: Oh, well no,
Max Cohen: gray. Where's the flat
Chad Hohn: the Max Grinch.
Max Cohen: It's too, it's too colorful and happy and floral. Where's the, where's the flat gray, you know,
George B. Thomas: we go. Here we go. So, so.
Chad Hohn: still orange though.
George B. Thomas: Yes. Yes, it is. It is so, so, like part of me is like trying to fight this, get off my lawn. I, I, I am gonna miss what it was. But Chad, I think you said something that was very interesting to me is like at the very beginning you're like, the name doesn't make the event.
Like you make the event, the event makes the event like it could be called. Anything bound if you wanted
Chad Hohn: elephant Sky event. Yeah.
George B. Thomas: it could be whatever. And and that's the thing. I think that the, it has to be understood that it's going to be an amazing event. They're going to do a great job. Courtney and team always has, has done amazing in the years.
They'll continue to do amazing in the future and they're coming up with new. Kind of bold ways to do this. So like the exchanges, uh, new name, kind of new thing. Same thing, but new thing in new directions. And, and so one of the things I talk about in the article that we wrote is this idea of being a transition specialist, being able to pivot, being able to see what's happening in the world and actually navigate in that direction.
And so for that, I give them kudos because this is a big undertaking. By the way, one of the things you see, if you go to their blogs, it's like Unbound, Unbound, Unbound. And then you see Inbound, we surveyed the inbound community about 2026, here's what they want, should, should the team go through and change everywhere Historically, in that blog where it was inbound to unbound.
We'll put a stake in that. We'll talk about that later. By the way, if you go to sidekick Strategies anywhere historically that we talked about inbound, that it made sense, it is now unbound, even though it was inbound historically. So should you, from an SEO perspective, just try to, uh, rank for this new name, Unbound.
Oh, put a stick in that. We'll talk about that later.
Max Cohen: You are rewriting history, George.
George B. Thomas: Max, we're rewriting
Chad Hohn: oh. Take it to the Ministry of Truth.
George B. Thomas: what, what are your thoughts? Like, 'cause I know I just unpacked a lot about kind of stay off my lawn and like understanding and thinking they'll do a good job or understanding They'll do. Good job. What, where, where's your brain in the conversation right now?
Max Cohen: I'm very aware that I'm, uh, being a curmudgeon.
George B. Thomas: Oh,
Max Cohen: in my grieving period. I need to grieve. I have not entered the acceptance stage yet, but I know I will, uh, I will say
George B. Thomas: Yeah.
Max Cohen: like Unbound works.
George B. Thomas: Oh, it
Max Cohen: I think it's, I think it's a beautiful name. Right? And I get it. Like, you know, in a, in a, in a time where they want to kind of like revitalize the, uh, the, the, the event itself and, and, you know, usher it into a new era, I think there's probably nothing else they could have called it.
George B. Thomas: Hmm.
Max Cohen: I think it makes. Complete sense. Like there's even, I'm like looking at their FAQ on their site where they're just saying like, wait, are you really just changing one letter? And they go, yes. And it's intentional. The phonetic bridge back to inbound is by design to show that this is a continuation of what we've been doing.
Right. And so like, yeah, if you're gonna change, like don't me. Am I pissed? The name changed. Sure. But that's just because I don't like change. Right. I like my things. I'm gonna be sad about it. Boohoo, boohoo me, right? Like, oh,
Chad Hohn: my
Max Cohen: my inbound away.
Chad Hohn: way it was.
Max Cohen: gonna do that. Like, you gotta, you, you gotta, you gotta.
Please don't cancel my ticket. You've gotta give me some time to accept it, right? I've made this thing my whole entire personality for the past 10 years, right? So of course I'm gonna be bent out of shape about it, probably more so than other people, right? That's fine. My opinion doesn't matter. Right. Uh, what I will say all of that emotional baggage out of the way, um, the Unbound logo is absolutely gorgeous.
The way they did the UN and like the slash and the, you know,
George B. Thomas: Like I want a
Max Cohen: around it.
George B. Thomas: I want a hat with the un. I want a hat with the, just the UN on it.
Max Cohen: The UN dude. We're the United Nations of sales, marketing and service man. It's. It's a, it's amazing, right? Um, I mean, I think it's like, don't me wrong, it's cool. I think it's exciting. It's, it's great.
I just, I need to, I need to grieve. Let me grieve.
George B. Thomas: I needed a couple days. I like, if you look at the timeline, it was probably two days before I sat down and like crafted an article and started to build a survival guide. But once I, once I got past the, like, purposeful, I like that you're calling it a grieving period. Like, uh, today we're laying to rest inbound.
Uh, it has been a good friend,
Chad Hohn: to say a few words,
George B. Thomas: would like to say a few words about our friend inbound.
Max Cohen: the stage, the staging of grief, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. I think I'm still in, like I'm, I'm between like, I don't think I'll ever be bargaining 'cause I can't change anything. Uh, so yeah, maybe I'm in depression. I'm not a hundred percent sure. I don't wanna call myself breath.
Maybe I'm still in denial.
George B. Thomas: Maybe. Maybe it's It's a big, it's a big April Fool's joke that is like going all month long or
Max Cohen: Oh God. Imagine that dude.
George B. Thomas: oh
Max Cohen: crazy.
Chad Hohn: gonna show up and then he's gonna read the logo on the badge and it's gonna say, I undone. He's gonna be like, oh no, it actually happened.
Max Cohen: Yep. Yep.
George B. Thomas: so Chad, where's, where's your, before I turn this ship and we talk about trademark branding and all the other steaks that I put in the
Chad Hohn: steak. Yeah.
George B. Thomas: Yeah. Uh, you know, with some potatoes and green beans and potentially get canceled from ever being able to go to the event again. Um, Chad, where are your brains, uh, around this conversation before we head into that direction?
Chad Hohn: Yeah, I mean, I think, uh, I think the, the site looks good. I love the intentionality, you know, like we've been talking about. I don't know. I feel it, I feel like I'm in a good spot with it. You know, I, it didn't take me as long to grieve, like it took max a while to grieve loop, you know, the whole loop marketing thing that was, that grieving process was a many episode, extensive grieving
Max Cohen: think I'm still stuck in depression on that one. I'll be honest. I don't know if I'm adding accept yet.
George B. Thomas: yeah.
Chad Hohn: Yeah. I don't know
Max Cohen: were times, there were times where I was in, I was dipping into accept it and then go wait right way back to anger and then I just looped
Chad Hohn: the bow.
George B. Thomas: we, we need to get, uh,
Max Cohen: It's still real to me. Damn.
George B. Thomas: at, at unbound 2026. We need to get Kip Bonder and Max like a 30 to 45
Max Cohen: no. Don't put me in a room with him. He'll kill me.
Chad Hohn: Uh, we gotta get like a max and uh,
Max Cohen: You, you'll put me in a room. You go put, you'll put me in a room with kid. I go, why is there a drain in the middle of the floor? What's going on here? It is like, yeah, I was,
George B. Thomas: Uh, today we lay our friend Max Cohen to rest.
Max Cohen: close the, why'd we close the door behind me? What's going on?
George B. Thomas: Oh,
Chad Hohn: no, I'm, I'm feeling good. I'm feeling good about it. I'm really, you know, I'm excited for the event too. So I'm looking forward to coming in, looking forward to seeing everybody doing the inbounding things that we all like to do to hit the sessions to
George B. Thomas: are they the inbound or unbound
Chad Hohn: unbounding things.
Yeah, it's, the neural pathways have been formulated. It
George B. Thomas: Right, right. Exactly. So again, I I, I'm, we're recording this on a day that I, I don't know if I'm speaking yet. Uh, haven't found out, they haven't released that yet. Maybe sometime this week or next week, we might find that out. And, um, I hope, I hope I do.
I hope I do. Um, but, but can I be the marketer in the room for a hot minute? Have have, have either of you guys done a couple things? Have you gone to Google and searched Unbound or Unbound event yet?
Chad Hohn: I think I searched Unbound and a whole bunch of, not HubSpot came
George B. Thomas: So, so if you search Unbound right
Max Cohen: wow. Oh Lord.
George B. Thomas: un Unbound is a sponsored result, by the way, Unbound 2026 Unbound gravel, uh, Unbound Conference, Bluebeam, which, uh, Unbound 2026. Good job on Bluebeam, by the way. Getting right up in there immediately. Then it's Unbound 2026 by HubSpot Unbound hubspot.com. It's Facebook and then Bluebeam again.
Come on, community.bluebeam.com. Attend Unbound 2025 Notice. Notice, guys. Notice attend Unbound 2025. So do you see what this organization did? I said this earlier.
Chad Hohn: Yeah.
George B. Thomas: People were probably like, why would he rewrite history? They are cranking in the top 10 search results because they changed inbound to unbound on an article that was historically maybe doing pretty decent in 2025.
Okay. Videos don't really have anything to do with it. Again, unbound gravel, um, unbound.org. Yes.
Max Cohen: I, I, I, I Google Unbound and I don't have a single HubSpot or inbound related result. On the entire first
Chad Hohn: the word unbound.
George B. Thomas: In. Yeah. Now, if you do inbound event, what happens?
Max Cohen: Or wait, inbound event or unbound
George B. Thomas: Unbound. Well, first of all, just unbound
Max Cohen: Yeah. If I do unbound event, I get
George B. Thomas: and then Unbound event. Unbound event gets a little bit better, but still like do, are we sitting in a day where, 'cause by the way, I can say I care about SEO, but I don't care about about SEO because I get a ton of referrals.
Humbly. I'm saying that by the way, but I still. Wanna play the SEO game,
Max Cohen: SEO is cringe. It's all a EO now.
George B. Thomas: well, okay. Okay. I'm glad you brought that up. I'm glad you brought that up. So have either of you guys gone to chat, GPT or Claude and done this because I did. Ready? Uh, Claude, what is Unbound? I don't have any information about Unbound in my memory or past conversations with you.
It doesn't appear to be something we've discussed before. I'll stop there. So I said, what is Unbound Event? Unbound is the new name for HubSpot's annual flagship conference, formally known as, so again, first word, didn't know. Second set of words it did. I go to Cheche, bt what is Unbound? Unbound can mean a few different things depending on the context.
So let me give you the straight answer first. Then we'll narrow it down together. And again, it was like, Nope. But then I did Unbound event. I did Unbound event. It says Unbound is HubSpot's flagship business conference. It's the evolution of what used to be called inbound. Ladies and gentlemen, we're sitting in a world where SEO and a EO are these things that are of importance.
But when we did this brand shift. What happens to the equity of inbound and I go back to being the marketer in the room. Does this mean that the inbound blog should go back and rewrite history like Bluebeam did? Like Sidekick decided to so that they can start to rank their historical inbound articles to unbound articles and write the ship or fix, or Max and Chad.
Is this a big, not a big deal and I'm just making crap up that I shouldn't even be worried about?
Max Cohen: I don't think you should be worried about any of it.
George B. Thomas: No. Really?
Max Cohen: Yeah.
George B. Thomas: Oh, interesting.
Max Cohen: I don't know.
Chad Hohn: Well, you're.
Max Cohen: I don't know. I, I, I,
Chad Hohn: management software, right, George?
George B. Thomas: Oh, well, I
Chad Hohn: software
Max Cohen: I thought it was, I thought it was a government conspiracy about Aliens,
Chad Hohn: yeah, blue. Blue Bluebeam has nothing to do with HubSpot at all.
George B. Thomas: my gosh. It's,
Chad Hohn: nothing.
George B. Thomas: didn't rewrite
Chad Hohn: conference called Unbound.
George B. Thomas: Oh my gosh, no.
Max Cohen: Wait, what are you talking about?
George B. Thomas: makes it even worse.
Chad Hohn: it's from my former industry. So when you said Bluebeam, I knew exactly what you were talking about. I sit
Max Cohen: Oh, no. They have a conference called Unbound.
Chad Hohn: Yeah.
Max Cohen: minute. Wait, wait. Look at their
George B. Thomas: no.
Max Cohen: Look at the Unbound logo. It literally copied like the inbound logo.
George B. Thomas: Oh, no.
Max Cohen: Oh God. It turned about 2026. No
George B. Thomas: Oh man. So, so, uh oh. Uh,
Max Cohen: Uhoh,
George B. Thomas: whoopsy. Um, like, can I
Max Cohen: No.
George B. Thomas: okay, so, so now we
Chad Hohn: I'm
George B. Thomas: competing conferences.
Max Cohen: What are we doing?
George B. Thomas: there, there, there's some branding Again, please, please do not cancel my ticket. Please realize that I'm not, I I love you. I love the team. I love the event, but like all of a
Max Cohen: don't register for the wrong event guys. And these construction dudes are gonna be pissed when they
Chad Hohn: They're gonna be like, why is there skyscrapers on here?
George B. Thomas: now, now, now, listen.
Max Cohen: Why is everything orange? What's going
George B. Thomas: this is, this is why I said put a stake in the ground for TM trademarked. Ooh, ooh.
Max Cohen: Ooh, woo.
George B. Thomas: What happens on the other side of this if you have trademarked Unbound? And you're the people that have been using Unbound but never trademarked it. So like, see, like there's some complexities that are around this, that while it's great that the name is changed, it's great that the event's gonna be awesome.
As a business owner, as a marketer, I go. But, but, but, but, but, but, and I think there's some lessons in there for anybody who's thinking about naming, renaming, uh, S-E-O-A-E-O. Strata. Yes. Yes. Max,
Max Cohen: can you screen share and bring up this website real quick?
George B. Thomas: uh, which website?
Max Cohen: Unbound one from Bluebeam.
George B. Thomas: Uh, the, uh,
Chad Hohn: good.
George B. Thomas: the Unbound
Max Cohen: at their logo. I need you to look at their logo.
George B. Thomas: oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, uh, well, it's not the same though that you doesn't have the cut.
Max Cohen: I know, but it's like the in, but it.
George B. Thomas: It's, well, well, first of all, it is very much, hang on, let me share the screen. It is very much the, um, the inbound font without a
Max Cohen: did that. They did that cutout end thing before, didn't they? Oh
George B. Thomas: think I've ever seen that.
I don't think I've ever seen that. So, so it is definitely the same font. Um, and so if we, again, no trademark on
Max Cohen: Maybe not. Maybe they didn't. I can't find it. Good. Goodness.
George B. Thomas: so, so
Max Cohen: Did we just find this and we didn't search this before? Oh my goodness.
George B. Thomas: I mean, I, I didn't
Chad Hohn: George, I thought you, you were kind of thinking that they were rebranding their historical data, right?
George B. Thomas: Well, I thought, I thought that Bluebeam was like an inbound agency that was, uh, optimizing their historical information about inbound. Um, I didn't realize the depth of, of whoopsie that was happening and. So we've got unbound gravel, we've got an unbound event that isn't unbound.
We've got Unbound that's trademarked. Uh, we've got a lot of change in a lot of things where I go, man, what the, what now?
Chad Hohn: when you, when you think about though, anybody who actually wants to go to HubSpot inbound, they're probably gonna type in HubSpot event or HubSpot inbound until, you know what I'm saying? And then that should get us there most likely, right?
George B. Thomas: if I type HubSpot event, uh, Unbound 2026 comes up first,
Chad Hohn: And then probably a lot of the old
George B. Thomas: use marketing events, HubSpot events, it's like, it's literally like custom events and like marketing events, right? But, but inbound does come up first. Um, and if I go inbound.
Chad Hohn: yeah. HubSpot inbound.
George B. Thomas: um, Unbound 26, sponsored Unbound first, inbound 2026, uh, is actually a page title still, which is interesting.
Uh, and then inbound in the community. All of the extra inbound events you need to know about inbound 2026. So that's interesting. There are still some pages on Unbound. That have like the inbound, uh, titles and, and whatnot. So, so again, I go back to being the marketer room, should unbound go through their historical blog and, and un inbound it to get some SEO juice flowing, like,
Max Cohen: Unbound it.
George B. Thomas: uh, yeah.
Yeah. I, okay, now I just laid that on your
Chad Hohn: layers deep on inception right now.
George B. Thomas: I, I just laid that on your laps, gentlemen. Um,
Max Cohen: Well, at least this, this blue being thing is the Unbound 2026 World tour. All
George B. Thomas: Oh, okay.
Max Cohen: So it's different. Okay.
George B. Thomas: Oh, okay.
Max Cohen: different. Yeah. We're different. We're built
George B. Thomas: Mm
Max Cohen: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
George B. Thomas: mm Wow. Okay,
Max Cohen: All right.
George B. Thomas: so, uh, let's close the show with the, let's just hang up right now.
Chad Hohn: Good night.
George B. Thomas: um, what's, what's the, what's the one thing. Out of this episode that you would wanna leave people with, whether it be about kind of the chaos that I waited for the last 10 to 12 minutes to bring up, or whether it be about the event itself or the change of the event.
Like what's the one thing Max Chad, and of course me that, are you using a paper cutter over there?
Max Cohen: No, I'm trying to get the shut up. Don't worry what I'm doing. I'm fine.
George B. Thomas: All right. All right. What's the one thing that you wanna leave the audience with today before we uh, we get outta here?
Chad Hohn: How about I go
Max Cohen: gonna be sick. Go ahead,
Chad Hohn: I was gonna say, how about I go since Max is preoccupied with whatever he's doing, or.
Max Cohen: go ahead, go ahead.
Chad Hohn: I mean, I think you already know what I'm gonna say is that, you know, home is what you make it, right? Like, uh, yeah, it's, it's inbound is what you make it. Unbound is what you make it. You go to the conference with your own intentions, your own goals, and, and make goals for yourself.
Like don't just go with no plan. I mean, you have to have room for, and don't go with a rigid plan either, right? You have to have room in your plan for the whatever happens. Wow. Moments of meeting awesome HubSpot people at the event. And you also have to make a plan and intentionally go do things right.
But the event is what you make it. And so we'll talk about, you know, your unbound strategy at some point before the conference. I'm sure. And so we'll give you as many tips and tricks as we can, especially for anybody new. Definitely, uh, hop into that, that episode 'cause that'll be worth your time, especially if it's, you know, your first time dealing with the registration and the line, you know, gotta show up five minutes early shenanigans and all the
George B. Thomas: hold it for, hold it for a second, max. Hold it for a second. So we'll definitely be doing an episode, like a survival guide episode. Again, uh, things from all of our brains, uh, not just the seven tips from the article we wrote, or the 41 I think in the survival guide that we built that you can go download on psychic strategies.com.
But max, what is your one thing?
Max Cohen: is still inbound, though
George B. Thomas: No cheese.
Max Cohen: No, no, no. But what am I saying when I say that?
George B. Thomas: Okay. Okay.
Max Cohen: It's still gonna be awesome, right? It's still gonna be the centerpiece of this entire community. It's still gonna be. You know, it's gonna be an awesome event. All right? Like it always is.
Chad Hohn: gonna be there.
Max Cohen: Right? Your homies are still there.
Alright? The vowels may have changed, right?
George B. Thomas: The vowel.
Max Cohen: the people haven't the experience. I mean, I'm sure the experience is gonna be better just like it is every single year. It's gonna be red, it's gonna be awesome. Don't dwell on the name change like I am. Let me process it. I'm processing. We can all process, right?
Uh, you know, and uh, yeah. I'm excited man. It's gonna be dope.
George B. Thomas: Yeah. My one thing is listen, in life, uh, things are gonna happen and you've gotta roll with the punches and the, the sooner we can learn to be transition special. Specialists or pivot specialists, especially in this world of ai, in, in this world of marketing and sales and services, forever changing. Um, this is just a great example to look at and go, look, they transitioned when they need to transition, and now it's gonna be a new awesome, a, a new era, a new thing, and maybe down the road.
I'll be able to say, I've spoken at Unbound for x, y, z years. We'll see, stay tuned. Uh, but we will have more episodes where we talk about unbound speakers, we'll talk about unbound strategies. Um, but until then, make sure you're being a happy, helpful, humble human. And of course, we'll see you in the next episode of the Hub Heroes Podcast.
